Delhi Police and Forensic Science Laboratory officials have arrived at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to investigate the assault allegations made by AAP MP Swati Maliwal against Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar.
A team from the Delhi Police reached Kejriwal’s residence on Friday to examine the alleged assault on Swati Maliwal.
This visit follows accusations from AAP’s Atishi, who labeled Maliwal a “pawn of the BJP” and suggested a conspiracy behind her assault allegations.
The police are working to recreate the scene of the alleged crime by taking Maliwal back to Kejriwal’s residence.
The investigation stems from an FIR filed against Bibhav Kumar, based on Maliwal’s complaint.
She accused Kumar of physically attacking her at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday, claiming he kicked her in the stomach and chest.
Maliwal formally lodged her complaint on Friday.
Swati Maliwal, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP and former head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), reported that Bibhav Kumar assaulted her inside Kejriwal’s residence.
According to her complaint, Kumar kicked and slapped her multiple times, even as she screamed for help.
Maliwal alleges that Kumar did not stop his assault, which included slapping her in the chest and stomach.
A police team led by Additional DCP (North) Anjitha Chepyala, along with three other officers and five forensic experts, arrived at Kejriwal’s residence around 4:45 pm.
They plan to collect evidence and review CCTV footage from the location of the alleged assault.
Maliwal recorded her statement under IPC Section 164 at the Tis Hazari court in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have intensified their search for Bibhav Kumar. He failed to appear before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Friday, despite being summoned for a hearing.
An NCW team, accompanied by Delhi Police, attempted to serve him notice at his house, but those present refused to accept it.
According to the FIR, Maliwal was waiting for Arvind Kejriwal when Kumar entered the room, started screaming at her without provocation, and began abusing her.
She claimed that she was told the Chief Minister was present at the house during the incident.
“He slapped me at least seven or eight times while I continued screaming.
I was in shock and repeatedly called for help. To protect myself, I pushed him away with my legs.
He then pounced on me, dragged me brutally, and deliberately pulled my shirt up, causing the buttons to open and the shirt to come off.
I fell to the floor, hitting my head on a center table. Despite my constant screams for help, no one came,” the FIR quotes Maliwal.
Maliwal underwent a medical examination at AIIMS, Delhi, today. The medico-legal case report indicates she suffered internal injuries to her face.
Earlier today, purported CCTV footage from Kejriwal’s residence surfaced online, showing Maliwal arguing with the security staff.
In response, Maliwal accused the “political hitman” of attempting to save himself.
Delhi Police recorded Maliwal’s statement on Thursday at her residence, and she filed the formal complaint that evening after a visit from the police team.
The incident has sparked protests by the BJP and its women’s wing, Mahila Morcha, near Arvind Kejriwal’s house. They accuse him of remaining silent on the matter.
As of now, the AAP chief has not made any public comments regarding the allegations. Bibhav Kumar is considered a key figure in the Chief Minister’s office.
