Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh, accompanied by Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Member Vandana, paid a visit to AAP MP Swati Maliwal at her residence in New Delhi on Wednesday.
This visit comes in the wake of a recent controversy surrounding an alleged assault on Maliwal by a member of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal staff.
The incident unfolded on Monday when Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha MP and former chairperson of the DCW, alleged that she was assaulted by a member of Arvind Kejriwal’s personal staff during a visit to the chief minister’s official residence.
Although Maliwal did not file a formal complaint, the matter gained significant attention after AAP leader Sanjay Singh confirmed the allegations during a press conference the following day.
Singh stated that Arvind Kejriwal’s Private Secretary, Bibhav Kumar, had “misbehaved” with Maliwal while she was waiting to meet Kejriwal.
He condemned the incident and assured that Kejriwal would take strict action against those responsible.
However, this announcement sparked a massive controversy in the national capital, with the BJP demanding immediate action and an FIR in the matter.
Delhi BJP leaders, including Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and BJP national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, criticized Kejriwal’s response to the incident.
They questioned his silence and urged him to take decisive action against the accused individual.
BJP activists, including members of its Mahila Morcha, staged a protest near the Delhi chief minister’s residence, calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged assault.
In response to the controversy, the National Commission for Women (NCW) announced that it would be sending an enquiry team to investigate the matter.
The NCW also stated its intention to request a formal action taken report (ATR) from the Delhi Police regarding the incident.
The incident and subsequent developments have underscored broader concerns regarding women’s safety and accountability in public office.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the actions and responses of political leaders and law enforcement authorities involved in addressing the allegations.
