The United States has refuted allegations made by Russia regarding its involvement in India’s parliamentary elections, firmly denying any interference in the electoral processes of the country.

The US State Department Spokesperson, Matthew Miller, dismissed the claims made by Russia, emphasizing that the US does not intervene in elections in India or any other country around the world.

The US reaction came in response to assertions made by Russia, which accused America of attempting to disrupt India’s internal political dynamics and influence the outcome of the Lok Sabha polls.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, had expressed concerns about the alleged interference by the US in India’s electoral affairs during a media briefing.

Miller reiterated the US stance, emphasizing that electoral decisions are solely the prerogative of the Indian people, and the US respects the sovereignty of India in determining its political course.

He underscored that the US refrains from involvement in elections globally, reiterating that such decisions should be left to the citizens of each respective country.

Zakharova, in her remarks in Moscow, characterized the allegations made by the US against India as unfounded and routine, expressing Russia’s discontent with the accusations.

She criticized the US for its purported misunderstanding of India’s cultural and historical context, suggesting that such accusations reflect a lack of respect for India as a sovereign nation.

Regarding the alleged plot to assassinate Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Miller declined to comment extensively, citing the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the matter.

He referred to the publicly available indictment containing alleged facts, emphasizing that these are yet to be proven before a jury. Miller refrained from delving deeper into the issue, respecting the legal process currently underway.
