The Supreme Court, led by Justice Sanjeev Khanna, indicated that it may issue interim orders on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea in the Delhi liquor policy case on Friday.
The court announced this possibility on Wednesday and urged Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the Enforcement Directorate, to prepare his submissions for the scheduled hearing on Friday.
Acknowledging that interim bail related to the challenge to arrest will also be addressed on the same day, Justice Khanna informed the court’s decision.
This follows the AAP chief’s unsuccessful attempt to secure relief from the top court on Tuesday.
The bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, refrained from announcing an order granting Kejriwal interim bail to facilitate his participation in the Lok Sabha elections.
The bench expressed concerns about potential conflicts of interest if Kejriwal were to be released on interim bail and continue discharging his official duties.
They emphasized their reluctance for Kejriwal’s interference in government affairs should he be granted interim bail, stating, “We don’t want your interference at all in the working of the government.”
Arvind Kejriwal was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in relation to the Delhi liquor policy case and is currently in custody at Tihar Jail.
The matter continues to draw attention and create controversy around the delicate balance between legal proceedings and political responsibilities.
The upcoming hearing in the Supreme Court stands as a critical juncture in the ongoing legal saga involving Arvind Kejriwal.
