  • Complaints filed on Food Safety Connect Portal
  • Samples collected from outlets for testing

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) Department has taken swift action in response to complaints of customers falling ill after dining at a McDonald’s outlet in Noida Sector 18 and a branch of Theobroma bakery in Sector 104.

The complaints, lodged through the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s online Food Safety Connect Portal, prompted an immediate investigation by FSDA officials.

According to an ANI news agency report, one customer reported feeling unwell after consuming fries and a burger at the McDonald’s outlet, while another individual fell ill after consuming an allegedly stale pineapple cake from Theobroma.

In response to these complaints, a team from the FSDA in Gautam Buddh Nagar visited the McDonald’s outlet to collect samples upon receiving the customer’s complaint.

Archana Dheeran, Assistant Commissioner (Food) FDA, Gautam Buddha Nagar, confirmed the actions taken, stating that samples of palm oil, cheese, and mayonnaise were collected from the McDonald’s outlet.

Dheeran explained that the customer’s illness was linked to the consumption of aloo tikki and french fries, prompting immediate action from the authorities. She further stated that the test results for the collected samples were expected within 15 days to a month.

Regarding the incident at Theobroma bakery, Dheeran stated that a complaint was received regarding a customer falling ill after consuming a stale pineapple cake, with allegations of sour icing. Samples of the cake were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing.

Dheeran emphasized that if the test results indicate any violations of food safety standards, appropriate legal action will be taken against the respective outlets.

This proactive approach underscores the commitment of food safety authorities to ensure the well-being of consumers and maintain strict adherence to food safety regulations.
