“95 Children Rescued from Illegal Transport from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh”

In Short

  • As many as 95 children rescued in Ayodhya
  • They were being transported to Bihar from Uttar Pradesh
  • Earlier, group of children from Bihar, being sent to madrasas across states were rescued

In a swift operation, the Uttar Pradesh Child Commission successfully intercepted and rescued a group of 95 children who were allegedly being transported illegally from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh.

The rescue operation, conducted on Friday, unfolded after a tip-off received by Suchitra Chaturvedi, a member of the UP Child Commission, regarding the suspicious movement of children from Bihar to Saharanpur, passing through Gorakhpur and Ayodhya.

Sarvesh Awasthi, Chairperson of the Ayodhya Child Welfare Committee, provided insights into the rescue mission, stating that the children, aged between 4 and 12 years, were found without any consent letters from parents.

Expressing concern for the welfare of the children, Awasthi highlighted that many of them seemed unaware of their destination or the purpose of their journey. Upon their rescue, the children were promptly provided with food and medical assistance.

Efforts are now underway to contact the parents of the rescued children, with plans to reunite them once their guardians arrive.

The absence of parental consent and the lack of clarity regarding the children’s destination underscore the gravity of the situation, prompting swift action by the authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the minors.

This incident follows a recent rescue operation in Gorakhpur, where another group of children from Bihar, destined for madrasas across various states, was intercepted by the Uttar Pradesh State Child Commission.

Acting on directives from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the state authorities swiftly intervened to safeguard the welfare of these vulnerable children.

Priyank Kanoongo, Chairperson of the NCPCR, emphasized the significance of upholding children’s rights to education and protection under the Constitution of India.

He condemned the practice of transporting children across state borders for religious education without proper authorization, highlighting the constitutional mandate for every child to receive compulsory education.

The rescues serve as a stark reminder of the need for vigilant oversight to prevent the exploitation and trafficking of children, reaffirming the commitment of authorities to uphold the rights and dignity of every child in accordance with the law.
