AIIMS Doctors Recommend Insulin for Arvind Kejriwal, Deemed “Completely Healthy” in Prison

  • AIIMS medical board reviews Arvind Kejriwal’s health through video conference
  • No changes made to the list of prescribed medicines
  • Delhi Chief Minister asked to continue dose of two units of insulin

A medical board consisting of five doctors from AIIMS, set up on the directive of a Delhi court, has advised Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to continue his insulin treatment while in prison, according to a source within Tihar Jail speaking to India Today TV.

The medical panel, convened by the court, conducted a thorough review of Kejriwal’s health via video conference on Saturday, with two doctors from Tihar Jail also participating.

Following the assessment, which lasted approximately half an hour, the board concluded that there were no alterations necessary to Kejriwal’s prescribed medication regimen, affirming his overall good health status.

Specifically, the medical board has instructed Kejriwal to maintain his current medication regime, including the continuation of a two-unit insulin dosage during his incarceration.

This decision comes after Kejriwal experienced a spike in his blood sugar levels, reaching 320 earlier in the week, prompting the administration of his initial insulin dose within Tihar Jail premises.

Notably, last week, a Delhi court had dismissed Kejriwal’s plea for daily virtual consultations with his personal doctor but directed Tihar Jail authorities to form a medical board comprising AIIMS doctors to assess whether the AAP leader, who has Type 2 diabetes, necessitated insulin treatment.

Additionally, the court permitted Kejriwal to receive home-cooked meals, albeit strictly adhering to dietary guidelines provided by his physician.

This ruling followed allegations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal deliberately consumed foods such as mangoes, aloo puri, and sweets to artificially elevate his blood sugar levels, purportedly to strengthen his case for medical bail.

Amidst these developments, the AAP has accused authorities of orchestrating a plot to endanger Kejriwal’s life in detention by withholding essential medications for his diabetes.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy and has been held in Tihar Jail number 2 since April 1.
