Amid escalating political tensions between the BJP and Congress regarding reservations for Muslims, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has leveled serious allegations against the BJP, claiming that the party intends to eliminate reservation quotas for marginalized communities in the near future.

Reddy asserted that the BJP aims to abolish reservations by the year 2025, coinciding with the centenary celebrations of its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Speaking at a public meeting, he emphasized that various RSS and BJP leaders have made remarks indicating their stance against reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Highlighting historical actions, Reddy referenced the BJP’s previous opposition to the implementation of the Mandal Commission report, which proposed reservations for Backward Classes.

Furthermore, Reddy alleged that the BJP’s ambitious electoral slogan of ‘abki baar 400 paar’ aims to secure 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, enabling them to amass sufficient parliamentary strength to revoke quotas for SCs, STs, and OBCs.

He cautioned that certain individuals are endorsing the BJP’s agenda, which threatens to dismantle reservation policies. Reddy framed the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a crucial referendum on the preservation of SC, ST, and BC reservations.

Reddy’s accusations came in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks at a rally in Madhya Pradesh, where he criticized the Congress’s stance on reservations and specifically targeted Reddy.

PM Modi warned against diluting reservations for OBCs and accused the Congress of politicizing reservation policies based on religious considerations.

In his speech, PM Modi underscored the constitutional principle that reservations cannot be granted on the basis of religion, expressing concern over the Congress’s alleged attempt to redistribute reservation benefits to its “special vote-bank.”

The Prime Minister’s comments ignited a fiery exchange between the BJP and Congress, with both parties fiercely defending their positions on reservation policies.
