“Tamil Nadu MP A Ganeshamoorthy, Who Attempted Suicide, Succumbs to Cardiac Arrest”

A Ganeshamoorthy, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) representing Tamil Nadu’s Erode constituency, passed away due to a cardiac arrest early Thursday morning, following a recent suicide attempt where he consumed pesticide.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) MP A Ganeshamoorthy, aged 76, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore around 5 am, as reported by news agency ANI.

The veteran leader, elected on a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) ticket during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Erode, had ingested pesticide on March 24, prompting immediate medical intervention. Ganeshamoorthy experienced discomfort and vomiting before being admitted to a private hospital in Erode by his relatives.

Following medical assessments, he was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) and placed on a ventilator, according to statements provided by the police to news agency PTI.

Reportedly, Ganeshamoorthy disclosed to his family members that he had consumed pesticide before seeking medical help. Subsequently, he was transported to a private hospital in Coimbatore, accompanied by two physicians and family members, for advanced medical care.

Following his demise, hospital authorities handed over the body to local law enforcement, who proceeded with an autopsy at the Institute of Road Transport (IRT) Medical College Hospital. As per MDMK sources cited by PTI, after the post-mortem examination, Ganeshamoorthy’s remains will be transported to Kumaravalasu village, located 15 km from Erode, for burial.

Ganeshamoorthy, who had previously secured victories in the Lok Sabha polls from Palani in 1998 and Erode in 2009, leaves behind a son and a daughter.

The untimely demise of A Ganeshamoorthy, a seasoned political figure in Tamil Nadu, marks a somber chapter in the state’s political landscape. As tributes pour in, his legacy and contributions to public service are remembered by colleagues, constituents, and the wider community.
