Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is facing a devastating setback as he has suffered a season-ending knee injury. The 25-year-old cornerback tore his ACL during practice on Thursday, and the injury was confirmed through an MRI.
The unfortunate incident occurred during 1-on-1 drills in practice, and Diggs was seen exiting the session on crutches. The Cowboys have not yet established a timeline for his return, but it is expected that Diggs will miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
Despite the setback, Diggs expressed his determination to bounce back stronger. In a social media post, he thanked everyone for their prayers and support, stating, “This is just God’s Plan. I will be back and better!”
Trevon Diggs, a two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, signed a five-year, $97 million contract extension with the Cowboys in July, making him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. He was drafted by Dallas in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft from the University of Alabama.
During his NFL career spanning 47 games, Diggs has recorded an impressive 18 interceptions, with 11 of them coming in his breakout 2021 season. In his two starts this season, he contributed with one interception, one forced fumble, and allowed just a 1.0 passer rating when targeted in coverage, according to Pro Football Focus. Diggs has been a vital asset to the dominant Dallas defense, which has conceded only 10 points to opponents in the first two weeks of the season.
Support and well-wishes poured in from teammates, including star pass rusher Micah Parsons, following the news of Diggs’s injury.
