Taylor Swift once again proved her dominance in the music industry at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), walking away with nine awards, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Pop, and Song of the Year. With these wins, Swift became the second-most awarded artist in VMAs history and tied for the most wins in a single night.
This victory marked the second consecutive year that Swift secured the top prize, clinching Video of the Year for “All Too Well” (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).
In her acceptance speech, Swift expressed her gratitude, stating, “This is unbelievable. The fact that this is a fan-voted award means so much to me. It’s really felt like the adventure of a lifetime this past year. I cannot believe that it was a year ago at the VMAs that I announced the ‘Midnights’ album. All I have to say tonight is thank you.”
Swift earned her 15th Moon Person trophy by winning the Best Pop award, presented by NSYNC, who visibly excited Swift acknowledged by saying, “I had your dolls… You’re pop personified.”
The singer continued her winning streak by securing the Song of the Year award for her track, competing against SZA’s “Kill Bill” and Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers.” This marked her 16th victory, and in her acceptance speech, she expressed her gratitude to longtime producer and close friend Jack Antonoff, teasing, “We’ll be making music together until 2089.”
Swift clinched her third award of the night in the “Best Direction” category for “Anti-Hero,” bringing her total VMAs wins to 17. This was her third win in the category, having previously won last year for “All Too Well: The Short Film” and in 2020 for “The Man.”
