Chris Christie Criticizes Trump as Putin Comments on Indictments, Calls for Rethinking Support

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has issued a strong rebuke to former President Donald Trump in response to comments made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the criminal cases against Trump. Putin expressed his view at the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia’s Vladivostok, asserting that the prosecution of Trump highlights the “rottenness” of the American political system, which he believes cannot lecture others on democracy.

Christie did not mince words in his response to Putin’s comments about Trump. He referred to Putin as a “Brutal, mass-murdering, KGB hitman” and criticized Trump’s admiration for the Russian leader. Christie took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to convey his message.

“Trump thinks Putin is a ‘genius’ – he clearly needs new role models,” Christie’s tweet read. “Get it straight. Trump is under indictment because of his conduct. He played with fire and is getting burned. And now his best buddy is coming to his defense.”

Christie went on to caution against aligning with Putin, stating, “If you are on the same side as Putin, you might want to rethink your position.”

The former U.S. president, Trump, who is currently the frontrunner in the 2024 GOP primary, has faced multiple criminal charges this year. These charges include state-level cases in New York and Georgia, with allegations ranging from a hush money scheme in New York to election interference in Georgia during the 2020 presidential race.

In addition to these state-level cases, Trump faces two federal cases. One accuses him of mishandling classified documents following his presidency, while the other is a broader investigation into his activities during the 2020 presidential election across various states, not limited to Georgia.

Throughout these legal challenges, Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing. As news of Putin’s comments spread, there has been no immediate response from Trump’s campaign.
