Ralph Lauren, the iconic designer, marked his triumphant return to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) on its official opening night, captivating audiences with a lavish show, a star-studded red carpet, and an opulent dinner. The event unfolded at Brooklyn’s Navy Yard within a converted warehouse, magically transformed into a glamorous, rustic-chic venue.
This marked Lauren’s first NYFW appearance since September 2019. Drawing inspiration from his off-season Los Angeles show at the Huntington Library last October, the designer seamlessly incorporated hints of California’s breezy style and the allure of the American West into his spring/summer 2024 collection. The collection featured jewel-toned gowns, vibrant silky fabrics, and a constant thread of his signature Americana ethos.
A galaxy of celebrities graced the event’s guest list, including Jennifer Lopez, Mindy Kaling, Emma Roberts, Gabrielle Union, James Marsden, Julianne Moore, Diane Keaton, Laura Dern, Robin Wright, Ariana DeBose, Rachel Brosnahan, Sheryl Crow, Sofia Richie, Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Amanda Seyfried, Cara Delevingne, Jonathan Bailey, Meghann Fahy, and many more.
Speaking about his collection, Lauren expressed that it was designed for a “liberated woman with an international quality,” emphasizing its classic yet free-spirited nature. He noted that the collection encompassed elements from various places, offering a unique blend of flavors, which he believes can be appreciated by an elegant woman of any age, anywhere in the world.
The runway showcase featured flowing blouses and dresses, vibrant ensembles, crochet and fringe details, all accompanied by the brand’s trademark Western belt buckles, blue denim, and button-down shirts. The illustrious supermodel Christy Turlington, aged 53, gracefully closed the runway show, donning a gold lamé, one-shoulder gown, radiating elegance and timeless style.
The star-studded audience witnessed the fashion spectacle, with A-listers seated in the front row. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, designer Thom Browne, Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and British Vogue’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful were among the notable attendees. Celebrities engaged in conversations and admired the show’s exquisite looks, enhancing the evening’s overall splendor.
Following the runway presentation, Ralph Lauren himself received a standing ovation, accompanied by his wife, Ricky, as they gracefully exited the venue hand in hand.
The after-show dinner continued the evening’s extravagance. Guests, including Gabrielle Union and James Marsden, mingled in a cavernous yet elegantly cozy dining room adjacent to the runway. The setting featured rustic wood walls adorned with chandeliers, creating a luxurious atmosphere. Fashion luminaries and celebrities enjoyed a delectable meal, including lobster salad and the choice of filet mignon or grilled branzino. Dessert, “Ralph’s Brownie” topped with vanilla ice cream, concluded the evening’s culinary delights.
Ralph Lauren’s presence in the dining room elicited another round of standing ovation, affirming his status as a fashion legend who continues to reinvent and inspire. In his own words, “It’s newer.”
