Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has strongly rebuked a U.S. House inquiry into her ongoing investigation of former President Donald Trump. In a scathing response to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio and a staunch Trump ally, Willis accused the inquiry of seeking to “advance outrageous partisan misrepresentations” and being “flagrantly at odds with the Constitution.”
Willis, who recently secured a racketeering indictment against Trump and 18 co-defendants over allegations of attempting to overturn the 2020 election, did not mince words in her response to Jordan. She criticized his understanding of the law, legal practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys, particularly prosecutors.
In a pointed jab, Willis suggested that Jordan purchase a $249 book to remedy his “total ignorance of Georgia’s racketeering statute.” Notably, all 19 defendants in the case have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Jordan’s August 24 letter to Willis had requested documentation related to her investigation, including inquiries about her communications with Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, who is prosecuting Trump on election conspiracy charges. Jordan questioned whether the indictment was politically motivated and whether there was coordination between Willis and Smith.
Willis, however, firmly rejected Jordan’s involvement in the case, labeling it as federal intrusion and legislative meddling in an executive prosecution. She accused Jordan’s letter of containing “inaccurate information and misleading statements” and asserted that its primary purpose was to obstruct the ongoing Georgia criminal proceeding.
The District Attorney also expressed concerns that sharing non-public information about the case could compromise the integrity of the proceedings and potentially prejudice defendants, victims, or witnesses. In her response to Jordan, Willis stated, “Your attempts at probing communications among and involving counsel in my office are wholly improper.”
This heated exchange underscores the deep political divisions and legal battles surrounding investigations into former President Trump, who remains a central figure in American politics.
