A Karnataka court has granted interim bail to JDS leader HD Revanna on Thursday in connection with a sexual assault case.
The case was filed against the former Karnataka minister for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who was employed as a househelp at his residence.
Notably, Revanna’s son, Prajwal Revanna, who is a JDS Member of Parliament, was also implicated in the complaint.
The court has approved bail with a bond of Rs 5 lakh and surety, along with certain conditions.
The main bail application is scheduled to be heard on Friday.
As part of the conditions, the court has instructed the JDS leader not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses.
Earlier, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) established by the state government had apprehended Revanna on May 5 in connection with a kidnapping case linked to the sexual abuse allegations.
The 66-year-old, who is the son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was subsequently released on conditional bail in this particular case on Tuesday.
As per the complaint, the woman involved was allegedly subjected to sexual abuse and subsequently abducted to prevent her from providing testimony against Prajwal.
In the meantime, Prajwal Revanna, whose purported explicit videos depicting sexual misconduct circulated widely, prompting an investigation by the SIT, is purportedly abroad and avoiding arrest.
Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice against the 33-year-old NDA candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, who reportedly left the country on April 27, a day after the elections.
Furthermore, JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda has declared that he will not observe his birthday on May 18. Sources from the JD(S) party have indicated that the veteran leader has opted out of celebrations due to the “challenging circumstances” the family faces following the accusations against his 33-year-old MP son, Prajwal Revanna, and Revanna himself.
