In a sharp rebuttal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion that the Congress would be “wiped out” in Uttar Pradesh, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra challenged the PM’s predictive prowess, questioning if he possessed astrological abilities.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, she remarked, “I am not an astrologer. If he (PM Modi) is, then tell me.”
PM Modi’s comments came earlier today during an interview with India Today, where he expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming elections, aiming for over 400 seats while dismissing the Congress’s electoral significance.
He underscored a rejection of “parivarvaad” (dynasty politics) by the people of Uttar Pradesh, asserting that they favored an alternative model that has purportedly transformed their lives.
In response, Priyanka Gandhi urged voters to critically assess the performances of both the BJP and the Congress before casting their ballots.
She emphasized the importance of understanding the tangible outcomes of governance in states where each party holds power. “First, see what you [BJP] have done in states where your government rules.
Then understand what our government [Congress] is doing. And then, considering all this, cast your vote with discretion,” she advised.
Highlighting the significance of democracy, Priyanka Gandhi cautioned against those advocating for constitutional changes, suggesting a need to safeguard democratic principles.
Turning her attention to the electoral battles in Raebareli and Amethi, traditional Congress strongholds contested by Rahul Gandhi and Kishori Lal Sharma against BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh and Union Minister Smriti Irani respectively, Priyanka Gandhi exuded confidence in her party’s victory.
She portrayed the Congress’s connection with the people of Amethi and Raebareli as profound and beyond mere politics, expressing certainty in winning both seats.
Priyanka Gandhi also criticized Smriti Irani’s recent visit to Amethi, accusing her of pursuing political gains without a genuine connection to the region.
She asserted that building such a rapport would require sustained effort, contrasting it with what she perceived as opportunistic engagement.
Widely viewed as a strategic leader and a key figure in mobilizing support, Priyanka Gandhi’s involvement underscores the significance of the electoral contests in Raebareli and Amethi for the Congress party.
