“Brij Bhushan Singh to Face Sexual Harassment Charges, Court Orders Framing of Charges on May 21”

In Short

  • Court orders framing of sexual harassment charges against Brij Bhushan Saran Singh
  • Charges framed in five out of six cases of sexual harassment against him
  • Charges will be filed against Brij Bhushan on May 21

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has directed the framing of sexual harassment charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and BJP Member of Parliament.

The charges stem from a case filed by six female wrestlers.

The court has scheduled the framing of charges against Brij Bhushan for May 21. In its ruling, the court cited sufficient evidence to proceed with charges in five out of the six cases.

The charges to be framed include Sections 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty) and 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code.

Additionally, charges under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) will be framed in two cases, while the sixth case has been dismissed.

Initially slated for April 18, the court’s decision was postponed following an application filed by Brij Bhushan requesting further investigation into reports of his presence at the WFI office on September 7, 2022.

The application was dismissed on April 26, leading to the resumption of proceedings.

The court announced its intention to deliver the order on May 7, which was finalized and disclosed on May 10.

Last year, in June, the Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan in response to allegations of sexual harassment made by the female wrestlers.

The chargesheet included provisions from Sections 354, 354-A, 354-D (stalking), and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
