Former President Donald Trump’s trial regarding hush money payments to Stormy Daniels has drawn significant attention as the first criminal case involving a sitting or former US president.

Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to falsifying business records, stands accused of orchestrating payments to Daniels to secure her silence about an alleged sexual encounter prior to the 2016 presidential election.

During the trial, Trump’s lawyer sought to discredit Daniels by highlighting inconsistencies in her accounts of the alleged 2006 encounter with Trump.

Despite intense questioning, Daniels maintained the veracity of her claims, emphasizing that her narrative remained consistent throughout.

Trump’s defence team argued that the trial should not focus on the details of the alleged encounter, asserting that it was politically motivated to undermine Trump’s campaign efforts.

Following Daniels’ testimony, Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche requested a mistrial, claiming that her explicit descriptions of the alleged encounter were irrelevant to the case and prejudiced the jury against Trump.

However, the judge denied the request, citing the defence’s earlier denial of the encounter, which opened the door for prosecutors to challenge Daniels’ credibility.

Blanche also sought to loosen the gag order on Trump’s public comments regarding the trial, but the judge rejected the request, warning of potential intimidation of witnesses.

Throughout the trial, Daniels remained steadfast in her testimony, despite rigorous cross-examination.

Defence efforts to portray her as unreliable were met with her emphatic denial of fabricating the allegations.

In addition to Daniels’ testimony, former Trump aide Madeline Westerhout provided insight into Trump’s financial records during his tenure in office.

The trial is the first of four criminal cases against Trump to proceed to trial, with Trump maintaining his plea of not guilty in all instances.
