Dushyant Chautala demands BJP prove its majority in Haryana as MLAs switch sides

In Short

  • Dushyant Chautala says JJP ready to back any party for government formation
  • He demands President’s Rule if BJP can’t prove its strength
  • This comes after 3 Independent MLAs withdrew their support to BJP government

Former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala has made a bold move, demanding a floor test from Governor Bandaru Dattatreya after three Independent MLAs withdrew their support for the BJP government led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

In his letter to the Governor, Chautala not only called for a floor test but also urged the imposition of President’s Rule in the state, highlighting the significant political upheaval in Haryana.

The recent developments stem from the BJP’s decision to sever ties with the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), which Chautala leads, leading to the formation of a new government in March under Chief Minister Saini’s leadership.

However, with the withdrawal of support from Independent MLAs, the government’s majority now stands in question.

Chautala, representing the JJP, expressed openness to supporting any other political party for government formation, emphasizing that the BJP government no longer commands a majority in the legislative assembly.

He stressed the urgency of a floor test to ascertain the government’s strength and demanded President’s Rule if the BJP government fails to prove its majority.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Congress Legislative Party has also sought an audience with the Governor, echoing concerns over the BJP government’s loss of majority and calling for President’s Rule followed by fresh elections.

The withdrawal of support from three Independent MLAs—Sombir Sangwan (Dadri), Randhir Singh Gollen (Pundri), and Dharampal Gonder (Nilokheri)—further complicates the political landscape.

While Chief Minister Saini maintains confidence in his government’s stability, opposition leaders, including Chautala and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, are rallying support against the BJP government.

Chautala’s statement underscores the JJP’s readiness to assist the Congress in toppling the BJP government, emphasizing the need for collective action amid the ongoing political uncertainty.

These developments unfold against the backdrop of impending Lok Sabha polls and upcoming Assembly elections, adding a sense of urgency to the political maneuvering in Haryana.

The state finds itself at a critical juncture, with the balance of power hanging in the balance, and the actions of key political players poised to shape its future trajectory.
