Actor Shekhar Suman, renowned for his recent appearance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi’, and Radhika Khera, a former Congress leader, made headlines as they formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today at the party’s headquarters in Delhi.
Their decision marks a significant political shift, with both individuals citing various reasons for their departure from their respective previous affiliations.
Expressing his sentiments on the occasion, Shekhar Suman reflected on the unpredictability of life’s twists and turns, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to align with the BJP. He remarked, “Till yesterday, I did not know that I would be sitting here today because many things in life happen knowingly or unknowingly.
I have come here with very positive thinking and I would like to thank God that he ordered me to come here.”
In a similar vein, Radhika Khera, who held the position of national coordinator within the Congress’s media department, articulated her disillusionment with her former party.
She accused the Congress of being “anti-Ram” and “anti-Hindu,” citing instances of harassment and mistreatment she allegedly faced within the party.
Khera specifically referenced her visit to the Ram temple in Ayodhya, which she claimed led to opposition and hostility from Congress leaders.
In her resignation letter addressed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Khera detailed her grievances, highlighting instances of alleged misconduct and discrimination.
She recounted an incident during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ where she accused the Chhattisgarh Congress media chairman, Sushil Anand Shukla, of offering her and other female employees alcohol and subsequently verbally abusing her.
Khera further claimed that matters escalated when she was locked in a room and subjected to verbal abuse at the Chhattisgarh Congress headquarters in Raipur by Shukla.
Her decision to resign from the Congress and join the BJP underscores her dissatisfaction with the treatment she endured within her former party and her belief in the principles and leadership of the BJP.
Overall, the defection of Shekhar Suman and Radhika Khera to the BJP represents a significant development in the political landscape, prompting discussions regarding the factors driving their decision and the potential implications for both parties involved.
