“Speculation Surrounds Raghav Chadha’s Whereabouts Amid AAP’s Political Crisis”

In Short

  • Raghav Chadha’s absence attracts questions from Opposition
  • He has been in London since March 8
  • Enforcement Directorate mentioned Chadha’s name in liquor policy case

Amidst the political turmoil in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, questions have arisen regarding the absence of the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Raghav Chadha.

Speculation suggests that Chadha may be evading the Enforcement Directorate’s scrutiny in connection to the investigation into the revoked Delhi liquor policy.

Chadha’s purported absence from the political scene has fueled conjecture about his intentions, particularly as Kejriwal faces judicial custody until April 15. Chadha’s recent activities, however, indicate that he has been in London since March 8 for a vitrectomy, a form of eye surgery.

During his stay, he participated in the London India Forum 2024 at the London School of Economics, where he engaged in discussions. His interactions, notably with UK Parliamentarian Preet Kaur Gill, drew criticism from the BJP, prompting questions about his affiliations.

Despite his absence from India, Chadha has remained active on social media, condemning Kejriwal’s arrest and criticizing the central government’s actions.

His last public appearance in India was on March 2.

The BJP, as well as voices within the INDIA Bloc, have raised concerns about Chadha’s absence.

NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader Jitendra Awhad questioned Chadha’s whereabouts, while BJP leaders Amit Malviya and Sunil Jakhar also expressed skepticism, with Malviya highlighting Chadha’s absence during the election season.

Although Chadha’s name has been mentioned in the Enforcement Directorate’s case, he has not been officially summoned for questioning.

Nonetheless, Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi has suggested that Chadha, along with other AAP members, could face arrest in the near future.
