Vigilante ‘Boopac Shakur’ Killed in Confrontation with Teens Suspected of Luring Alleged Predators

A man known for posing as a minor online to expose alleged sexual predators was fatally shot during a confrontation with two teenagers in Michigan. Robert Wayne Lee, who had a substantial online following under the alias “Boopac Shakur,” had confronted two males, aged 17 and 18, at a Pontiac restaurant around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Lee, 40, accused one of the teens of being a pedophile and physically assaulted him. In response, one of the teenagers brandished a knife, while the other, suspected to be the younger of the two, shot Lee multiple times. After the attack, the pair fled the restaurant. Lee was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The two suspects, believed to be from the Pontiac area, were apprehended early on Saturday afternoon in Pontiac. However, as of Monday, charges had not yet been filed in the case, according to Stephen Huber, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

Lee, who posed as a 15-year-old girl online, had a history of confronting alleged sexual predators, which at times resulted in arrests and criminal charges. Nevertheless, it also led to mistaken identifications and false accusations.

In a notable case, Lee’s actions led to the arrest of Jared Frederick Salisbury, a 33-year-old deputy, in October 2022. Salisbury, during his probationary period, had allegedly attempted to solicit a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, who was actually Lee posing as a minor. The incident resulted in Salisbury’s termination from the sheriff’s office. His case is currently in the pre-trial stage.

Following Lee’s death, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard acknowledged that confronting suspected sexual predators could escalate to violence, as the individuals involved might feel cornered and react aggressively. He also emphasized the importance of understanding the standards of evidence required for convictions and recognizing the potential for violence in such situations.

Bouchard mentioned that arrested predators in similar circumstances had previously engaged in violent behavior to evade capture, including ramming police cars.

The case remains under investigation as authorities await potential charges against the two teenagers involved in the fatal confrontation.
