At 14, Amir Menendez achieves a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest afro on a living teenager and man.

Amir Menendez, a 14-year-old teenager, has recently made headlines by breaking the 2024 Guinness World Record for the largest afro on a living teenager and man. Amir’s remarkable afro measures an astonishing 7.74 inches in height, 9.77 inches in width, and has a circumference of 7.33 feet, firmly establishing him as a record-holder in the category for men, according to Guinness World Records.

Interestingly, this category was first introduced by Guinness in 2010. The inaugural record was set by Aevin Dugas, a Louisiana woman, with an afro that had a perimeter of 4.4 feet. Remarkably, Dugas went on to set the record again in 2021 and then once more in 2022, according to the Guinness World Records website.

Amir’s journey to achieving this unique record began when he decided to officially grow out his hair at the age of 11.5 years. Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Amir expressed his pride in having such unique hair, emphasizing that it serves as a fantastic conversation starter.

Guinness World Records, renowned for documenting the world’s most extraordinary achievements since 1995, had introduced the category of the largest afro in 2010. Michael Whitty, a Guinness photo editor, highlighted the selection process, noting that Aevin Dugas had been the standout winner when she initially set the record.
